Montes del Plata port terminal ocean pier inaugurated
21 April 2014. The Punta Pereira port terminal ocean pier was inaugurated today with the arrival of a soda shipment.
Shortly after 8 am, the Chem Bulldog vessel Houston, USA tied up smoothly and became the first ship to moor at the port terminal. The 150-meter long vessel unloaded the initial 5,000-tonne shipment of soda, which is used to recover white liquor (a substance employed to separate cellulose wood).
A small inaugural ceremony was held for the port after the ship docked and was followed immediately by unloading activities. The product was unloaded directly onto the port terminal`s pipe system, which is directly connected to its final storage area.
The 1,400-meter long dock will operate directly with ocean vessels to supply the mill with certain inputs, including fuel and chemical products, and will be used to load pulp to be transported to its final destinations. This operation is in combination with a second and smaller dock. It is to this smaller dock that the M`Bopicuá Logistics Terminal, near Fray Bentos ships half the wood used in the pulp mill.
