A Uruguayan consortium beat out bids China, Spain, Finland, Australia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.
Two Uruguayan companies will develop residential areas in the Colonia and Carmelo areas for Montes del Plata.
The residential areas to be built by Montes del Plata in Colonia and Carmelo, composed of 150 and 30 houses respectively, will be designed and built by Uruguayan companies, one of which is based in the department of Colonia. A construction agreement for these homes will be signed in the next few days. After mill construction is completed, the homes will be used to attend to local housing needs.
The ion process began last February when Montes del Plata evaluated seven architectural bids. Leonardo Peyronel`s architectural firm was ed to advise the company in proposals received, technical analysis of the bids and control of the work.
The firm`s first task was to analyze the construction possibilities to best tend to the defined technical specifications: 60 m2 of constructed space, 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms per house, in addition to a complete residential infrastructure (recreation areas with barbecues, soccer fields, a commercial center, health clinic, etc.
Likewise, the architectural firm carried out an in-depth study of the various solutions proposed by companies China, Spain, Finland, Australia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Uruguay.
A proposal presented by the CALPUSA company in association with El Orejano ( Colonia) based on the use of aluminum concrete molds was deemed the best in terms of quality, durability and work timeframes. Because it was the most economically competitive, it was chosen amongst the top three candidates. The remaining two finalists were Spain and Finland. 20 to 30 houses will be completed per month.
After the mill construction is completed, Montes del Plata will donate the entire residential development built in Colonia del Sacramento to the departmental Intendancy, while the development in Carmelo will be donated to the Ministry of Housing, Territory and Environment. Over USD 7 million will be invested in this project.
Infrastructure in Colonia El Orejano, a Colonia based company, will be CALPUSA`S partner for the construction of the residential area`s infrastructure. El Orejano was founded in 1992. For this project, the company will need to hire additional local personnel to round off the necessary 15 to 20 workers.
