Educational continuity
Through the “Yo Sigo” (I Continue) programme, Montes del Plata seeks to strengthen educational continuity for high schoolers in the towns of Conchillas, Campana and Ombúes de Lavalle.
During the first phase of the programme, the Dimauro Davrieux Psycotherapy Centre implements vocational guidance workshops called “Orientando Orientales” (Guiding Uruguayans) with the aim of bringing adolescents closer to their interests and motivating them to continue with their studies.
The second phase is focused on students about to graduate from high school and is implemented by Montes del Plata’s social department, which provides personalized support for each young person in Conchillas so they can overcome obstacles and further studies after high school. While integrating students’ families, the programme is geared to seeking scholarships and other conditions as well as overcoming barriers such as fears or a lack of persons as points of reference. The programme also includes an event entitled “Un día en Montes del Plata” (A day at Montes del Plata) where company employees from diverse professional and technical areas volunteer to share their experiences. Students also travel to Montevideo to visit education centres and become familiar with local transport and student resources as well as to learn about professional degrees, scholarship opportunities and to be able to make informed decisions regarding tertiary studies.
